Ghostwriting Project

Have you ever been in a room with 2,000 people listening to a song specifically written about how you got divorced. I did and it was great. This was a fun week I spent in Cincinnati in the Fall of 2015 not eating their weird chili with spaghetti but rather working with singer-songwriter Jens Lekman and the Contemporary Art Museum there. A story I wrote was interpreted by Jens Lekman and after a few face-to-face meetings, turned into a song. At the end of the week, at a sold-out concert, Jens played the song, There was some neat press on this as well, including a NYTimes and Pitchfork feature.

Story sent in by David Kennedy Music and lyrics by Jens Lekman Vocals and guitar by Jens Lekman Bass and vocals by Lewis Rogers Additional vocals by Addison Rogers Recorded by Jason Sebastian at CAC nov 16 Jens was playing that night in Seattle at the Crocodile I was married back then, so I went with my wife We had been to counseling To save what was worth saving But to be frank I wasn’t sure what that was at the time And Jens introduced his encore with “Never waste your time or someone elses time if you don't love them anymore” And I knew we were over as we walked out the door On my first night after the breakup I went out for karaoke I jumped off a chair and injured my knee I took a job in Toronto Canada seemed like the place to go as a freshly divorced with a knee injury Jens introduced his encore with “Never waste your time or someone elses time if you don't love them anymore” I knew we were over as we walked out that door
